As now you have already packed the essentials for your first flight journey 🙂 let’s help you know what you have to do next.
You can do the online check-in beforehand to save some time. Else, reach the required terminal of the airport well before the flight take off time (advisable before 1 hour 30 minutes). The terminal information would be mentioned in the itinerary. Keep your itinerary and Id card/passport handy. You need to show these at the airport entrance. Following instructions would give you a detailed idea about what to do once you enter the airport.
Proceed for luggage drop-in and collection of the boarding pass. Different flight companies will have different counters. In addition, airport authorities will always be there to help you. Never hesitate to ask for help. At some airports, there is a provision for luggage scan before its dropping and collection of the boarding pass.
Keep your id card and itinerary handy at the boarding pass counter. You can also request for your preferred choice of seat (window, middle or aisle) subject to its availability. Drop-in the luggage and collect your boarding pass. Do not forget to collect the tags for each of your cabin luggage which includes laptop bag, handbag etc. The tag needs to be tied around each hand luggage. Your boarding pass will have the details of your seat number, the gate number and boarding time. You need to proceed for the security check in.
If you have a connecting flight, it’s a good idea to check at the counter about the details where you will receive the luggage or if you need to collect the boarding pass again for ongoing journey etc.
Proceed for security check-in. From this point onward you will only need to show your boarding pass at different places. So you can keep the itinerary and id proof safely back into your wallet. This will help you being less messy at the security check-in.
At the security check-in, take out all the electronic equipment (laptop, mobile, camera, etc.) in the tray near the scanner belt and put the hand bags on the scanner belt. Take out the wallet and key rings from your pocket and put them into the tray also. You can not take any sharp objects like knife, blade, razor etc. in to the plane with you. So, if you are carrying these type of objects then put them in main luggage. You can not carry any liquid or gels exceeding 100 ml into the flight in your hand luggage.
Please note that a decorum of standing behind the yellow line before the security check-in should be followed at all queues. On your turn arrives, go to the security person for the metal detector test. After this, collect your hand luggage.
Make sure that they all have the tags with a stamp on it. Else, ask for it to the security persons present over there. They often miss the small handbags, especially the ones carried by the ladies. I personally have experienced it and I was returned from the boarding gate to get it stamped.
From here on proceed to the gate number mentioned in your boarding pass and relax till the boarding starts. Special assistance like wheelchair can always be sought. Check the rules beforehand to have hassle-free journey.
